Hardin Valley game report, Clinton Preview
By Kyle Blackburn, Color Commentator/Webmaster
It was "Separation Friday" in district 3AAA with the top 6 teams in action against each other and headlined by the Panthers hosting the Hawks of Hardin Valley on homecoming. Up for grabs was sole possession of the district lead heading into the the home stretch of the regular season.
Hardin Valley got on the board first with a 61 yard touchdown run and incredible individual effort from running back Dorian Eskridge midway through the first quarter.
The Hawks never saw the endzone again and Powell quickly answered on a two play drive that ended in a 22 yard Dustin McPhetridge touchdown Poss to Drake Owenby that tied it at 7. McPhetridge would go 13-18 for 182 yards passing with one touchdown and 1 interception and added more than 70 yards yards rushing. The first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie.
Then, the Panthers run game got it cranked up.
Dy'Shawn Mobley added two second quarter touchdown runs of 39 and 25 yards and Montario Washington capped the quarter off with a 10 yard score as Powell Went into the half with a 28-10 lead.
The Hawks came out of the half with a little trickery and recovered an onside kick to start the third quarter. They drove down into the redzone but the Panther defense held strong and Hardin Valley settled for a field goal to make it 28-10.
That's how the third quarter would end.
The 4th quarter saw two more Mobley touchdown runs as he finished with 19 carries for 288 yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers racked up 556 yards of total offense and a stingy defense held the Hawks to 182 yards of total offense.
The Panther's move to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in the district and in first place. Conventional wisdom would say they are in good shape to finish the regular season undefeated. Their remaining regular season opponents have a combined regular season record of 3-17.
Hardin Valley falls to 4-2 and 3-1 in district play. They are now in a three-way tie for second place with Karns and Oak Ridge.
Powell heads to Clinton, Tennessee next week where they'll face the winless Clinton Dragons. Losing to Central Friday night, the Dragons fall to 0-7. They've had trouble getting into the endzone, only scoring 56 points all season and were shutout by Hardin Valley, Karns and Dobyns-Bennett. Their closest game to this point was a 28-23 loss against Campbell County in week 5.
